On January First, 2001, at sunrise, some friends and I celebrated 2001 at the Trona Pinnacles, in the Mohave Desert in California.
Surrounded by terrain that made us feel we were re-living the Dawn of Man in Africa, we watched the REAL sun rise above a seven-foot-tall replica of the monolith.
I'd like to describe more about that magical day...

Without planning it and without at first realizing it, we were within feet of the set to Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes remake. And I have pics to prove it.
