NOW the long wait was ending. On yet another world, intelligence had been born, and was escaping from it's Cinematic cradle. An artistic experiment was about to reach it's climax....

(the Monolith and Friends)
MANY of us who witnessed the experiment so long ago, had not been men. In fact, those of us hovering around 40 are in a very special position. We were kids when 2001: a Space Odyssey premiered, and when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon- so the full impact of the wonder his us the most powerfully, perhaps.
SO for many years I wanted to do something special on January First, 2001. Not at midnight, but at sunrise, since the sun has such powerfull meaning in "2001: a Space Odyssey". My ambition was no less than to watch the REAL SUN rise above a "REAL" Monolith on that day.
I had big ambitions... I needed a place guarenteed to be sunny, a place that looked like the African Savannah, and, prefereably, a place with a crest of hills to the East. That way, the sun wouldn't clear the hills till it was high enough to clear the monolith as well.
All this would be timed to "Also Sprach Zarathustra", playing over a monster outdoor sound system, so that the plain would fill with light and the sun would clear the monolith, right at the thundering climax to this great work of music!

AND LEST I be accused of being a little TOO serious about the whole thing, a little TOO "California Wacko", I thought it would be fun for us to jump around in Ape Suits after sunrise was over.
As DDay approached, I got VERY NERVOUS indeed..
A month before, a coupla weeks before, still, I hadn't picked a site- and wasn't getting much help. Aside from a few, close friends... fellow 2001 freaks, I was getting no help at all. I thought NO ONE CARES!!!!
Then, like a bolt of lightening out of the blue, some week or two before, I got an email from Mark and K. C. Marcinek. See Chapter Two for details....
